Sir Walter Scott

Fàilte!

Welcome to Wild Soul Walks. Here is a haven and a retreat from the stresses of life. Where the Scottish landscape brings you nature writing and well-being. Here is a place to escape into soothing words and lush photography. A chance to slow down. To find calm.

I am J L Hall, a Scots writer who, after two long decades in London, returned home to Scotland. Here, in this big sky country, I can feel the wind in my hair and a sting in my cheeks. I can breathe. Let me share this with you.

I live with my partner by the sea in Edinburgh, and when I am not working, or writing, I am walking along the wind-battered coast beach-combing and taking photographs.

My travel writing has won an international writing prize, my short stories and essays have been published in anthologies, in podcasts, and online including 24 StoriesTempestA Narrative MapAM Heath/TLC Reads anthologies, plus the forthcoming recovery anthology, A Wild and Precious Life, and Patrician Press short-fiction collection, Booksbywomen.org, Imustbeoff.com, and The Mechanics’ Institute Review.

I am currently writing, living, and breathing my non-fiction book on walking, nature, and wellbeing. I have written one (and a bit) novels, both steeped in place. Both novels have been finalists in fiction awards. For more on my writing, you can take a look at wwwjlhallwriter.com

I live with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and my creative practice of writing and photography is essential to my well-being. I absolutely believe that walking in nature, day after day, in the Scottish elements is changing my life. Wild Soul Walks is my journey.

Fàilte. Stay awhile.
